I drive my car to get there and spend a lot of money on gas. Mostly I am concerned about the elderly people in this neighborhood. It's not easy for them to get around and it's not safe. Most of the people in this community walk to Lee's Hair and Dollar - and most of the food is old/expired and the people are rude. The nearest grocery store is Kroger on 8th Avenue - people can get there by bus or by Inner City (Mr. Vince) Church. It's too far to walk. We NEED a grocery store in this community. For one, it's a long way to get to another store. Most of the people who live in the high rise don't have transportation. I think it would be more conveinent for the older people - many have walkers, limited mobility and there is a lot of crime out here so it's not safe to walk. A grocery store in this community would be so good. This Grocery Story was collected at the Edgehill Food Awareness Cookout on August 31, 2010. It is hard but I always manage. There are things that sometimes I just can't find. This Grocery Story was collected at the Edgehill Food Awareness Cookout on August 31, 2010. Kroger is the only grocery store in the area that we have to grocery shop and it is not conveinent to get to, let alone their prices are very unaffordable. I receive food stamps and I get less because of the prices. I always run short of food at the end of the month because of the price of the food. When possible, I go to the other side of town to a local market to get my meat because it's local owned and operated and they consider their prices because of the neighborhood they serve. It would be wonderful to have one (a grocery store) close in this community - without going too far with no transportation.
