Grocery Story

North Nashville
I have a car and I take my friend to the grocery store. We live close to the Kroger on Monroe but if we didn't have a car we would have to rely on family and friends or I would have to ride my bike and carry the things we need. I haven't ridden the bus in 13 years but will get on the bus if I really had to. I still wouldn't be able to shop for very much because the bus stop is about a half mile from my house, so maybe 6 bags or so.
We Need a Grocery Store!
Transportation Issue
Edgehill
Kroger is way out. It is too far. We have to get someone to drive us to the store, and then we have to pay them or buy them something at the store. If no one can take me, then I have to ride the bus...and then I can only buy a little bit of groceries because it's too much to carry. It's hard for me to do this with a toddler in tow. We really need a grocery store here! This Grocery Story was collected at the Edgehill Food Awareness Cookout on August 31, 2010. It is a very big challenge to go to the grocery. I either have to ride the bus or get someone to drive me to the grocery. It takes at least two hours or more. It would be a blessing to get transportation to the grocery.

It is very hard to get to the store when you don't have transportation or if your car is broken down. If you can't find kind people to take you to the store you end up having to pay an arm & a leg for someone to take you. We do need a grocery store here - we don't have one. No one can get to the grocery store without asking someone to take them. That's how it is. I always ask my kinfolk to take me - if they can't, the only other thing I can do is catch a bus. It takes forever! A Wonderful Adventure to Eat Good
Transportation Issue
I shop everywhere. Why because it gives me different choices. The Dollar General Market is one of my favorites. They have a great variety of foods to choose from. It's not only a grocery store, I can get household products and other items also. I get there by bus sometimes (which costs $3.20) or pay someone to take me. Thank God the store is right up the street from me. I pay $10 if I have someone take me to the store because I often go to more than one. The Dollar General Market is just like shopping in Kroger or Walmart, only cheaper. That's why I shop there, because it's convenient and easier for me to ensure my family eats a healthy, well balanced meal.
A Way to the Store

I don't have a car and my baby was born premature so she has to have different kinds of stuff. So I have to ask relatives to take me to the store or walk to Piggly Wiggly on North 2nd, about 3 to 4 blocks from my house. My daughter has to drink a type of milk that most small stores don't carry. I have to try to get all my daughter's stuff at one time or end up having to go to Kroger or Walmart and carry her with me.
With or without a car

Don't have a car now. Wasn't hard at first cause I could go when I wanted to or needed to but now I have to go when somebody has time to take me and wait on me at the store. Now I try to go to the store closest to me like Save-a-lot, Kroger, Walmart on Gallatin Road. I will walk if I have to to the nearest store which is Walmart and get things I need for just that week because my house is about two blocks from the bus stop. I will still have to go to the store again before the end of the week and usually end up paying someone to take me by the end of the week, which ends up costing me between $10-15 just getting to the store.
